JewishGen Basic Genealogy Course

I haven't been able to post anything lately since i have started an online genealogy course through JewishGen.org that started in May. I have learned a lot and most importantly I am learning to reach out to others for help and guidance. I just wish I had the time that some of the others in the class have! There are class members who have posted upwards of 30 times. I think I have only posted about 8 times to report my progress. Definitely one of those days when I wish I was retired and had more time to pursue my own interests.

I have been focusing on finding the Krueger family history. I have found Myer's 1930 and 1920 census records, but not in 1910. Since he supposedly came to the US from Russia (now Belarus) at the age of 13 with his mother Sophia "Sipie" in 1900 I have continued to look at immigration records and ship passenger lists. I haven't had any luck.

What puzzles me the most is that he lived with his aunt Sarah Shon when he came to the country, but I haven't seen his name with them. I have searched many census records for Michigan City, Indiana and he doesn't appear until 1920 once he had been married for 10 years. Other theories are that he lived in NYC when he first came to the country. Or maybe he didn't come over til after 1900.

So my search continues! I hope that by the time this class ends I learn a bit more about Myer and Sophia, but for now I will just keep working out the puzzle.
