I have several ancestors who died horrible deaths and the newspapers went into great detail about what happened. Sometimes I wonder if, because they didn't have TV, they published the gruesome stuff in the newspapers. I don't know why but it IS sad. I can only hope that the children were not affected too deeply. Let's hope I find some happy news for this line of cousins!Jen Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16596879658994744470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7581499490973697401.post-89826631317881549232012-04-18T23:15:10.967-04:002012-04-18T23:15:10.967-04:00I haven't experienced genealogical serendipity...I haven't experienced genealogical serendipity myself, but it's neat to read about your experience! What struck me as...Wow, that's incredibly sad. What struck me as how the papers followed this poor man's downfall to the "nth" degree. When I worked in TV news, the edict in the newsroom was "we don't cover suicides" - unless, of course, a public figure is involved. I think most newspapers operate on this principle, also. Obviously, papers - at least this one - did not adhere to Liesa Healy-Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11199346578382937358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7581499490973697401.post-66941428785769194352012-04-18T10:19:28.299-04:002012-04-18T10:19:28.299-04:00Very Interesting story.Very Interesting story.Annmariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17814482657058685704noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7581499490973697401.post-54556194969861670702012-04-17T21:56:28.746-04:002012-04-17T21:56:28.746-04:00Jennifer, this gives me the chills. One of my great-great-grandfathers committed suicide. It was an awful thing to learn, as I'm sure this is for you too. I can only feel sadness for our grandfathers and for their families.
